The China-Brazil Forum on Climate Change and Energy Technology Innovation opened in Tsinghua’s Main Building on January 14. Mr. Samuel Pinheiro Guimarães, Brazilian Vice-Minister for Foreign Issues, Professor Luiz Pinguelli Rosa, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro Director of COPPE, and representatives from Brazil’s Embassy in China attended the Forum.

Academician Ni Weidou, Director of the Science and Technology Commission of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Yu Qingtai from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and representatives from the National Energy Administration and Ministry of Science and Technology also attended the Forum.
Tsinghua Vice President Xie Weihe addressed the opening ceremony, which was hosted by Professor He Jiankun, Vice Chairman of the Tsinghua University Council and Director of Tsinghua’s Laboratory of Low Carbon Energy.

During the symposium, which runs through January 15, experts from Tsinghua and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro will exchange ideas and conduct detailed discussions on climate change and energy technology innovation.
A meeting to discuss collaborations in the context of the China-Brazil Center on Climate Change and Energy Technology Innovation was held on January 15. A Memorandum of Understanding for creation of the China-Brazil Center on Innovative Technologies for Climate Change and New Energy was signed later that day.
The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro delegation also visited the Department of Chemical Engineering, the Department of Thermal Engineering, and the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology.
